The library does employ students to work in our library departments.The right candidates will demonstrate good written and verbal communication skills, have experience with computer software, be dependable and flexible, and value good customer service.

Access, Research, and Instructional Services  (ARIS), Location: Lower and Upper Levels. Duties include:

  • Check out and scan in circulating library materials, including Reserves, GIL Express, Interlibrary Loan, group rooms materials, and equipment
  • Maintain order of the Circulating, Juvenile, Periodical, Popular Reading, Legal, Reference, and Audio/Audio-Visual collections by shelving items and shelf reading materials
  • Answer phones and provide basic information or direct the question to a Library faculty or staff member
  • Conduct hourly headcounts and record interactions with patrons for analytics
  • Shift books as needed or assigned
  • Ensure library is presentable at all times by cleaning the equipment, books, and surfaces
  • Conduct walk-throughs of the space to ensure patrons are adhering to library policies
  • Provide assistance with the hardware and software, including the computers and computer software, circulating equipment, compact shelving, printers, copiers, scanners, and the microfilm reader
  • Provide guest-login passes
  • Assist in opening and/or closing the library
  • Assist with creating, organizing, and maintaining displays
  • Participate in projects intended to improve workflow productivity, accessibility, and availability of information
  • Perform other tasks as assigned

 

Collection and Resources Management (CRM), Location: Lower Level. Duties include:

  • Making library materials shelf ready by affixing labels, applying protective covers for book jackets and paperback books, and applying property stamps, theft deterrent devices and card pockets
  • Ensuring that added volumes and new periodical issues are checked in, processed and shelved in a timely manner
  • Performing specialized processing required by audio-visual materials and music scores
  • Preparing a list of any titles withdrawn, and packaging the items in preparation for transfer to State Surplus

Assessment & Marketing, Location: Upper Level. Duties include:

  • Create and edit graphic and text content optimized for social media platforms
  • Record and review social media analytics to assess success and recommend improvements
  • Develop and contribute to social media campaigns to promote library services and resources or to increase followership
  • Take videos and photos of events and projects to promote on social media

Archives & Special Collections, Location:  Upper Level. Duties include:

  • Assist with collection maintenance and preservation
  • Assist with intake and logging in of newly donated materials
  • Inventory collection & accession materials
  • Assist with preparation and composing of Finding Aids
  • Greet and assist visitors to the Archives>/li>
  • Scan/digitize collection materials
  • Create PDF copies of materials and documents
  • Enter collection metadata into software program Photograph materials
  • Filing items
  • Transcription of audio recordings
  • Daily climate capture and logging of temperature and humidity
  • Answer phones when Archivist is not available
