How do I find scholarly/academic articles?

Answer

You can find scholarly or academic articles through the library databases. The databases on the Clayton State Library website provide access to tens of thousands of articles, in a variety of specialty academic areas, which allows you to focus your search on your research topic. For more information on what scholarly articles are, and how they compare with searching the world wide web, click on these links in the below list "Information Sources Guide: Scholarly Journals," and "The Web v. Library Databases -- A Comparison from Yale University Libraries."

A good starting point for scholarly articles is Academic Search Complete (find under the letter "A" on the alphabetical list on the library homepage www.clayton.edu/library, or in the links below). Academic Search Complete covers a broad range of academic topics. After you type in key words for your search, you can select a check box for "Scholarly Articles," which will filter the results to scholarly articles. You can see the Scholarly Article filter in the below photo outlined in a red box. Many of the library databases have similar filters for "Scholarly" or "Academic" articles. Use the links below for more information on finding and evaluating scholarly articles, or contact your Clayton State librarians who are always happy to assist you.
